Born and raised in Santa Cruz, California, I have always been exposed to outdoor activities and staying in shape. From sports to cheerleading to dance, I learned at an early age the importance of exercise and healthy eating. In college, I swam regularly and dabbled with Tao Kwon Doa and Kung Fu. Currently, I spend most of my time in the gym weight training or when it’s nice out, on my bike, jogging or hiking.

I started my fitness career at Equinox Printing House and moved up the ladder quickly to become a Tier 3+ trainer. In addition to personal training, I have a degree in holistic health coaching from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, am a BioSignature Practitioner (body fat testing to find hormone imbalances) and a degree from Precision Nutrition.

Pre-personal trainer and holistic health counselor, I worked in publishing and marketing, but after sitting at a desk for multiple hours at a time, I realized more and more the importance of staying in shape, stretching properly and keeping up my posture…and of course, eating healthy and nutritious foods. I stayed in shape, but sometimes couldn’t make it to the gym until 9:30pm at night and finally realized that a desk life was not for me.

For me, fitness is not just a way to stay in shape, it’s a way to find peace and maintain mental sanity—if I don’t workout, I tend to have anxiety and don’t sleep well. When I engage in physical activities, I feel happier and more energized for my day-to-day routine. In addition to keeping off the extra pounds, living a healthy lifestyle allows me to feel good, have cheat foods from time to time without feeling guilty. My passions don’t stop with working out; I love learning about nutrition and utilizing my skills in the kitchen to benefit both my clients and me.

In case you’re wondering, I didn’t always eat in the most healthy way—my cravings included French fries and red licorice. My current treats include homemade popcorn (with butter!), red wine and the occasional smores (love the one from Blue Bottle in Brooklyn). I still enjoy the occasional French fry, but through understanding my body and the way food effects me, these items just don’t taste as good as they once did.

Traveling or not, I always find a way to stay active and tend to make a workout out of every activity, e.g., doing butt lifts walking up stairs, working my obliques while sitting at a counter on a stool, or doing push-ups at the beach (try it!), or handstands…well, anywhere. :)

I’m so excited to be able to share my training philosophy, healthy recipes and knowledge of nutrition and healthy lifestyle techniques with my clients, friends and family. On a day-to-day basis, I enjoy reading about new styles of training, nutrition, functional medicine and always look to further my knowledge of how the body works.
